MATCH received the second place award at the Charter Growth Fund competition for utilizing a successful tutoring program funded in large part by the Federal Work Study Program
Several dozen Boston students who were inside the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. during this week's deadly shooting, returned home into the loving arms of family members late Thursday night.
MATCH High School ranked in the top 100 high schools, in part as a result of all students' rigorous Advanced Placement curriculum. MATCH also earned this distinction in 2008.
Lennie Polanco is currently finishing his sophomore year in mechanical engineering at Dartmouth. He offers one among many success stories representative of Boston's MATCH Charter Public High School. MATCH Principal Jorge Miranda is a Dartmouth grad, and many of the school's former students have gone on to other prestigious schools like Smith, Howard, Georgetown and Brown.
The school auditorium was filled to capacity, with people even standing along the walls, for the recent annual lottery night at MATCH Charter Public High School. Almost 700 students applied this year for 65 available spots. The tension was palpable. Parents wore worried looks and furrowed their brows.
The Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC), an initiative of New Leaders for New Schools, recognized MATCH as one of 21 schools across the country with solid, replicable practices that can be implemented in other schools serving similar high-need student populations.
At MATCH Middle School, a tuition-free charter public school in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, Amanda Warco (’07) has discovered the secret to making perfect bathroom passes. “Use a paper cutter, not scissors, for the straightest lines,” she advises.
During the inauguration of President Barack Obama, WBUR's Here & Now program visited MATCH High School and interviewed several MATCH students. After the inauguration, junior Ulcha Ulysse was invited into the studio to offer her opinion alongside Princeton professor Julian Zelizer.
