Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to complete a separate application for each of my children?

Yes, each child needs a separate application. However, we recommend that applications for children who share one or more guardians be done within the same SchoolMint account.

Do I need to provide proof of Boston residency with my application?

No, proof of Boston residency is not required at the time of application. However, as a requirement from the Department of Education, we must give lottery preference to residents of Boston, and all applicants who receive an offer of admission must submit two proof of address documents in order to officially receive the seat.

If one of my children is accepted, and I have another child on the waitlist, will they automatically be accepted, too? How does sibling preference work?

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education describes sibling preference in MA charter schools as: Applicants who have a common parent, either biologically or legally through adoption.

Once one of the children attends their first day at Match and documentation is provided proving that the children are biological or legal siblings, the sibling on the waitlist will then receive sibling preference, which will likely move them closer to the top of the waitlist for their current grade. Siblings receive an admission offer once a seat becomes available in their grade.

How old must my child be to apply to Match?

To enroll in K1, the child must be 4 years old on or before September 1st of that school year.

To enroll in K2, the child must be 5 years old on or before September 1st of that school year.

All Match Middle School, students in grade 6 who live in Boston at least 1.5 miles from the school building will receive a bus assignment. All students in grades 7-12, regardless of where they live in relation to their school, will receive a free MBTA pass to take public transportation to and from school. If your child is accepted after the start of the school year, it takes about two weeks for the school bus transportation to start.

Does Match serve all students? What should I do if my child has an IEP and/or is an English Language Learner?

Yes, Match serves all students. We value the unique contributions that diverse learners bring to our community, and we want to empower all students to succeed! Match has exceptional, dedicated Special Education and Language Acquisition teams. We encourage families of students with an IEP or 504 plan to submit this information with the child’s previous school records during the registration process in order for Match’s student support team to follow up and plan for a successful transition.
