Summer Matters

Quality summer experiences are crucial to the development of our students. Match More helps create opportunities for students to retain learning and build social skills during the summer.

Match More

Match More connects students and families to high-quality summer learning programs.

Did you know?

Unequal access to summer learning explains OVER HALF the achievement gap between lower-income and higher-income students.

Over the summer low-income students lose 2 MONTHS of reading achievement while middle-income peers make slight gains.

More than 90% of Match families report cost as the biggest barrier to summer learning.

A summer wasted is no small thing.

The lack of learning opportunities results in “summer slide” — or summer learning loss — that is responsible for half of the achievement gap between lower and higher-income students.

9 in 10 teachers spend at least 3 weeks reteaching lessons at the start of the school year.
*National Summer Learning Association

Without summer counseling and support, one-third of first-generation college attendees fall victim to the “summer melt” and fail to enroll in the fall, even after being accepted.
*National Summer Learning Association

Elementary school students with high attendance in summer learning programs boost their math and reading skills.
*National Summer Learning Association

Studies show that 33% of families had at least one child who attended a summer program and 51% of families would like their children to participate.

Cost to Families

Match More is committed to removing all barriers between our students and high-quality summer learning opportunities.

Our unique summer placement program ensures our students develop the skills illustrated in our Student Success Profile, so they graduate from Match with confidence, intelligence, and a strong sense of humanity. We build partnerships with providers and help families secure placements and existing financial aid, but sometimes “gap” funding is needed for incidental costs that often fall to families (e.g., transportation and equipment costs, special fees for special education summer camps, etc.)

Match supports families in filling this gap on a case-by-case basis. Families should contact us at matchmore@matchschool.org or (617)-221-6118 for any financial/programmatic support.

“As a rising senior, Roselyn attended the Syracuse University pre-college program, which offered an intensive and diverse curriculum that exposed her to various health professions and ignited her passion for medicine. Throughout the program, Roselyn immersed herself in a multitude of classes including biomedical engineering, forensics, biology, gene studies, and even a mindful course. The experience broadened her perspective on the different aspects of healthcare, inspiring her to explore various avenues within the profession.”

“As a student at Match, I traveled to Alaska with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity Match provided me to step out of my comfort zone and into the wild. The experience not only opened my eyes to the beauty and challenges of nature, but also helped me recognize an inherent drive within myself to pursue what I felt most passionate about.”
